If the seagull is laughing it's because the tuna has humor
by Marianne Granier, published on November 18, 2021 by Éditions Editions du 1 2 3 .
Her favorite quote:
The Seagull bore her past like a half-erased signature and passed through her present on a drip. As for her future… Macha knew very well that La Mouette was 60 years old and that everything was breaking down and soon in ruins. A bit like her. But to admit it, there was a line she didn't cross. Not yet. Because she was one with this coffee.
Why this book?
Because it only takes a few pages to fall under the spell
of this happy team.
Even the most detestable becomes lovable under the pen of Marianne Granier.
Each character bears the marks of his past which makes it even more endearing.
This novel shows us that it is easy to have a priori but that it is essential to go beyond and be surprised by the beauty behind it.
Because Marianne Granier wrote a first novel bursting
with realism, good humor and beautiful stories. Pieces of life, perhaps drawn from her own adventures, which she has assembled into a wonderful story. A wacky atmosphere and colorful characters that you instantly fall in love with. The pen is incredibly efficient, the dynamism that emerges gives you hellish fishing and even if it is a first novel, it presages a great book adventure for the future.
Because reading this novel is a bit like coming back to La Mouette's café
and leaving your worries at the door.
Funny passages, others more moving and a story that captivates you.
The stories intertwine and we live to the rhythm of the opening and closing of the café and even beyond.
The story brings lots of smiles and an inner bonfire.
I have crossed all these characters and I hope that the author will create many more, she has a lot of talent in this exercise.
The essentials in 2 minutes
The plot.
Macha manages "La Mouette".
Invoices for sanitary control and repairs, everything goes wrong.
On the verge of filing for bankruptcy, but it is without counting on its loyal and eccentric customers.
Alone we go faster, together we go further, it's not necessarily the people we thought of first.
Characters.
Macha manager helped by Gloria addicted to games but who cooks like a goddess.
Carmen suffering from Alzheimer's but so full of joy not like her sister Lola grumbles the former prostitute.
Armand ex-surgeon and Marco the macho plumber, Maxime the musician and then… Philippe
Places.
A half-quiet, half-lively district of Paris, and more particularly in the Macha bistro.
The time.
Nowadays.
The author.

If the seagull is laughing… is her first novel - I quote - resolutely feelgood.
This book was read with:
the precious moments, the feeling of time spent with loved ones, values more important than anything else, this is what this book rekindled in my memory.
A nice read that makes our bubble burst and look beyond appearances.
