A spider of unknown origin triggered a police operation in a supermarket in Ludwigsburg (Baden-Württemberg).

When an employee opened a banana box on Saturday, the animal jumped out, said a police spokesman.

The spider hid in the shop.

The concern that it could be poisonous called on various emergency services.

Police officers, firefighters, a spider expert, an exterminator and an employee of the animal rescue service set out on the hunt for the eight-legged creature between the shelves.

The supermarket was closed for 1.5 hours - then they had the animal.

According to the police, it was not a poisonous specimen, but a harmless crab spider.

She can now recover from a shopping trip in a spider lover's terrarium.
