Today (20th), the mask was used for multiple purposes. There was even fine dust. A warning has been issued for the first time in six months in the metropolitan area and Chungcheong region, and tomorrow, the second half of this year, measures to reduce fine dust will begin for the first time.

Reporter Jung Gu-hee covered the story.

Today, it is Yeouido Hangang Citizen's Park.

It is crowded with citizens who go out on a weekend of mild weather.

However, only the shape of the 63 building in the back is faintly visible.

Seen from a high place, a haze of dust completely covers downtown Seoul.

[Lee Moon-hee / Songpa-gu, Seoul: At first I thought it was fog. It's fine dust because it doesn't go away.] Even the

red colored leaves were covered with dust and turned gray.

[Park Chul-hyung / Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do: I tried to give my child a tour of Seoul from Namsan Tower, but I couldn’t go up. Even if I go up, I can't see anything... .]

Yesterday afternoon, fine dust began to flow in from overseas, including China, and as the atmosphere stagnated overnight, the fine dust could not be resolved and accumulated, resulting in a sharp increase in concentration.

Images taken by the Chollian satellite also show pollutants coming from China.

With the addition of domestic pollutants, the concentration of ultrafine dust in Seoul during the day soared to 111 micrograms per 3 square meters, five times the usual level.

The National Academy of Environmental Sciences predicted that the fine dust in the metropolitan area will be 'very bad' and 'bad' in most other areas as well.

As the concentration is expected to exceed 50 μg for two days in a row, the metropolitan area and Chungcheong Province decided to take emergency measures to reduce fine dust for the first time in the second half of this year.

As a result, the operating hours of business sites and construction sites are shortened and the use of old construction equipment is restricted.

However, because it is a holiday, it is said that there will be no restrictions on the operation of emission grade 5 vehicles and the full closure of parking lots for autonomous districts and public institutions.

This fine dust is expected to dissipate with one rain from Sunday night to Monday.
