Jerry Douglas, who played John Abbott in "The Young and the Restless", is dead

But his face will have marked millions of viewers, in France, the United States, and all over the world.

Actor Jerry Douglas died Tuesday at the age of 88.

He would have been 89 this Thursday.

It was he who embodied the mythical character of John Abbott, the patriarch

soap opera 

and boss of the family business Jabot Cosmetics, broadcast on TF1.

The actor died "from a brief illness," according to CBS, which broadcasts the series in the United States.
