After the knife attack in an ICE between Regensburg and Nuremberg, the Bavarian Red Cross claimed to have “cared for three seriously injured people on site and transported them to clinics”.

Around 200 to 300 passengers evacuated from the train are currently being looked after in a hall near the Seubersdorf train station in the Neumarkt district in Upper Palatinate, a spokesman said on Saturday afternoon.

110 Red Cross forces are on site, including crisis intervention teams to care for shocked people.

The Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation had previously reported on it.

A spokesman for the Upper Palatinate police headquarters said on Saturday: "The alleged perpetrator was arrested.

There is no evidence that there are other perpetrators. "

The background to the fact remains unclear.

The Red Cross spokesman did not comment on the identity of the injured and pointed out that the police situation was not yet over.

The hearing of witnesses is still ongoing.

According to the Bild newspaper, it was a 27-year-old man of Arab origin who had previously called for help on the train and was said to have had psychological problems.

Investigators are currently ruling out a terrorist background.

Spokespersons for the state and federal police did not want to provide any details about the arrested person when asked by the dpa.

There was no response to inquiries from the FAZ at the Upper Palatinate Police Headquarters.

Railway line remains closed

According to the Upper Palatinate Police Headquarters, the police were informed at around 9 a.m. “that there were to be attacks on passengers in an ICE.

The police were on site with a large contingent.

The train is currently in Seubersdorf in the Neumarkt district in Upper Palatinate, said a spokesman for the federal police.

The railway line between Nuremberg and Regensburg remains closed.

When the blockage will be lifted cannot be predicted at the moment, Deutsche Bahn announced on Twitter.

"There are delays," it said.

The railway had previously announced that long-distance trains were waiting at suitable stations or that they would be diverted.

As the spokesman for the Interior Ministry announced on Twitter, Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said: “The cruel knife attack on the ICE is terrible.

I hope that the injured and those who witnessed what happened will get well quickly and completely. ”He thanked the police and the train staff, who, with their courageous efforts, were able to“ prevent worse ”.
