On November 1, a reporter asked questions at a regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The data showed that the number of US companies with regional centers in Hong Kong is declining. Does this mean that the implementation of Hong Kong’s National Security Law and the causes of the epidemic have affected Hong Kong’s performance? The status of an international financial center?

In response, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin responded, “Some time ago, the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong issued a survey report that pointed out the proportion of companies that are optimistic about the business environment in Hong Kong compared to January 2021 and August 2020. Substantial Increase."

He pointed out that since the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, foreign investors in Hong Kong, including the United States, have ushered in a safer, more stable, and predictable business environment.

The relevant report of the International Monetary Fund also fully affirmed Hong Kong's status as an international financial center.

Just last month, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region stated that Hong Kong’s foreign direct investment inflows ranked third in the world last year, and the number of foreign companies stationed in Hong Kong and the number of start-ups also hit a record high this year.

In 2021, the number of overseas and mainland Hong Kong companies of the parent company reached 9,049, and there were 3,755 start-ups. These two figures are new historical records.

Wang Wenbin emphasized that since the promulgation and implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, Hong Kong's business environment has been better maintained and Hong Kong's development potential has been further demonstrated.

The Chinese central government will, as always, fully support the development of Hong Kong and integrate itself into the overall development of the country. It will also, as always, welcome the business communities of various countries to seize opportunities to continue to seek development in Hong Kong and achieve greater success.
