A bear pulls an American woman out of her tent and devours her

The American authorities killed a bear after it pulled a woman out of her tent, killed her, and devoured her in the US state of Montana.

Leah Lucan, a 65-year-old nurse from California, was on a mountain biking trip with two friends when the 181-kilogram bear attacked their camp in the early hours of Tuesday.

Officials chased the animal for three days, setting traps in the hope of luring it.

Staff wearing night vision goggles shot the bear as it raided a chicken coop.

According to the BBC, Ms Lucan and her friends were camping behind the town's post office when they were attacked at around 4am. The bear first approached the two camps at dawn local time, but initially escaped.

Mrs. Lucan and her two companions, who were staying in a separate tent, removed food from their tents and secured it before going back to sleep.

But the bear returned shortly thereafter, and launched its deadly attack.
