On June 28, the Advanced Light Source Technology R&D and Testing Platform (PAPS), which provided technical R&D and testing support capabilities for China’s new large-scale scientific device-High Energy Synchrotron Radiation Light Source (HEPS), was officially transferred to trial operation in Beijing Huairou Science City. It marks a critical stage in which the Beijing Huairou Comprehensive National Science Center has shifted from construction as the main focus to both construction and operation.

PAPS is located opposite the HEPS. The project innovation adopts the "dual subject" construction model of the Institute of High Energy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Huairou Science City Company to carry out forward-looking and systematic research to solve the superconducting high-frequency and low-temperature, precision magnets required for the construction of high-energy synchrotron radiation light sources. A series of key technologies such as measurement, detector technology R&D and testing, and X-ray optical inspection provide strong technical support for the construction, operation and subsequent development of advanced light sources.

PAPS started construction in May 2017 with a construction period of 4 years. In mid-June 2021, it has successfully passed the process test and acceptance, achieving high-quality project construction goals.

At present, PAPS has achieved many results, especially in the development of 1.3G Hertz (Hz) 9-chamber superconducting cavity, which has reached the international leading level.
