On June 28, various varieties of lotus in the Old Summer Palace have entered the flowering period one after another, and many tourists come to enjoy the flowers and take pictures.
On the same day, the 26th Lotus Festival of Yuanmingyuan opened.
Qiu Jing, head of the Propaganda Section of the Yuanmingyuan Management Office, introduced that the lotus variety base in the multi-crop-like cloud scenic spot in the Old Summer Palace is the most diverse and concentrated lotus viewing spot in the garden. Tourists can see more than 200 kinds of lotus species at one time, such as needle powder and Chinese red.
There is also a special water-watching route in the park. Visitors can take a boat at the Haiyue Kaijin Wharf in Changchun Garden and go boating on the lake to watch the lotus scenery up close.
At present, the lotus planting area in the Old Summer Palace reaches more than 1,000 acres, including many rare varieties.
During the lotus festival, Yuanmingyuan will continue to carry out activities such as monthly photography contests, comic season contests and sketching season contests with the theme of lotus and summer gardens. The activities will continue until August 20.
