Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw have decided to get involved in the education of underprivileged young people in Los Angeles.

According to Deadline, the Hollywood couple have announced the launch of an initiative called LA Education Recovery Fund, for which they will contribute the sum of $ 1 million, via their Hearthland foundation.

With the support of other charities such as the Wasserman Foundation, the Ballmer Group, the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, the goal of the initiative is to donate $ 7 million to 55 associations that provide educational programs to 50,000 students. coming from low-income families.

After a summer of 2020 made even more complicated for the most disadvantaged students due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw intend to ensure that 2021 gives them reasons to believe in a better future. “Los Angeles public school children are among those who have suffered the most from a pandemic that has exposed and deepened the inequalities that exist in our city and our country. The LA Education Recovery Fund is an opportunity to step in and surround them with the support they need. The children of LA are resilient and if we support them, in partnership with families, educators and communities, we can do our part to help them get back on track, ”the couple said in a statement.

The fund will begin this summer to set up support programs for certain students, and will evolve at the start of the school year to assist students in their preparation for entering university, in particular.
