The President of the Government,

Pedro Sánchez

, has announced that Spain will require a

negative PCR or complete vaccine

to all citizens who come from the

United Kingdom

to our country.

The measure will begin to apply within 72 hours.

Sánchez has justified the measure in the fact that

the data coming from the United Kingdom are worrying

because they have infections "well above 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days."

In this sense, he has said that a

decision must be made to apply additional measures

in our country and has specified that he announces it so that tour operators take it into account.

This announcement comes after the British Government placed the

Balearic Islands on the "green list" of tourist destinations

, so that as of June 30, the British who go to this popular tourist destination will not be quarantined upon their return.

A measure that augurs a large flow of British people to the Mediterranean archipelago, which in the last year before the pandemic, in 2019, represented

3.7 million of the 13.7 million tourists that the Balearic Islands received

.

In an attempt to reactivate its tourism sector, key for the country and devastated by the

coronavirus

pandemic

, Spain had lifted since May 24 the demand that the British show a negative PCR to enter the country.

The British were the first contingent of foreign visitors to

Spain

in normal times (18 million in 2019).

Spain opened its borders on June 7 to all tourists in the world who are vaccinated with the full schedule.

Europeans not fully immunized can come with a negative anticovid test.
