If they are now completely free for everyone in France, some PCR and antigen tests could become chargeable in the coming months.

The question of reimbursement for certain tests "will arise around the start of the school year," Gabriel Attal, government spokesperson interviewed on the Franceinfo platform, said on Monday.

The lifting of this gratuity was requested on June 23 by the Academy of Medicine concerning the so-called "comfort" tests.

That is to say those made, for example, to go on vacation, to go to a nightclub, or even to go to a festival.

In short, tests made for "personal convenience", but which dig the hole of security: count thirty euros for an antigen test and 70 for a PCR done in the laboratory.

However, "more than two million of these tests are carried out each week in France", reports the Academy.

A brake on vaccination

In addition, the Academy of Medicine believes that the free access to these tests is slowing down the vaccination campaign. Indeed, the introduction of the health pass since June 9 "encourages more and more people to use screening tests and repeat them at will, the validity of a negative result not exceeding 48 to 72 hours," especially those who do not wish to be vaccinated against Covid-19 ”, regrets the Academy in its press release. A press release with the title "To defeat Covid-19, a good vaccination is better than repeated tests".

With the start of the summer holidays, the tests should multiply, but for Gabriel Attal, it is still too early to lift this free.

“Today, to do a number of things, you either have to have received your two doses or have performed a test.

You have people who took their first dose a few weeks ago, perhaps because they did not have the right to do it before, who therefore cannot be fully vaccinated, ”explained the spokesperson. of the government.

According to the latest figures published by Covid-Traker which tracks the number of people vaccinated in France, 49.73% of French people have received at least one dose of vaccine and 31.53% have received all the required doses.
