Yuan Longping, the "Father of Hybrid Rice", academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and winner of the "Medal of the Republic", died at the age of 91 in Changsha, Hunan at 13:07 on May 22.
It is reported that Southwest University is Yuan Longping's alma mater.
In 1949, he was admitted to the Department of Agriculture of Xianghui College in Xiaba, Beibei, Chongqing.
The school was later merged into the newly established Southwest Agricultural College-one of the predecessors of Southwest University.
