The paradox is always the same: a virus which circulates widely, but a hospital pressure which slowly ebbs.

The figures for hospitalizations and entries into intensive care of Covid-19 patients have indeed continued to decline slightly this Saturday, indicates Public Health France.

Hospitals now have 26,196 patients sick with Covid-19, against 26,424 on Friday.

A figure down for the fifth consecutive day.

Over the last 24 hours, the agency has recorded 1,085 new admissions (against 1,405 the day before).

That is, excluding Sundays, the lowest figure for this indicator since Saturday, January 9 (944).

The pressure is also eased very slightly in intensive care: 3,294 patients with covid-19 are hospitalized there, against 3,298 the day before.

As a reminder, their number had reached 7,000 in the spring and 4,900 in the fall.

The intensive care units have admitted 191 patients in the past 24 hours (+264 Friday).

While waiting for the variants?

But the rate of contamination is not weakening: Public Health France recorded 21,231 new cases in 24 hours, against 20,701 the day before.

In one day, 199 people died from the disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 81,647 since the start of the epidemic.

In one week, there are 10,037 new hospitalizations and 1,795 intensive care admissions.

These figures have been relatively stable since the start of the year, while the health authorities are watching for the possible influx of patients because of new variants of the virus that have arrived in France and considered more contagious.

The positivity rate remains stable compared to the previous day, at 6.1%.

And on the vaccination side, more than 2.2 million people have received a first injection and nearly 640,000 have had both doses, according to the Directorate General of Health.
