Jan Janowski, aka

Siberian Explorer

, is heading east on foot.

Nothing less than from Barcelona to Australia.

We found him in one of those decaying houses that populate the old part of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

He arrived in this country on March 3.

There he waits for the borders closed by the pandemic to reopen.

Since setting out on the trip

in May 2018, he

has walked with a cart tied around his waist at the speed of his legs.

The Barcelona man from the Gracia neighborhood shares his trip through instagram (@siberiano_explorer) as a travel blog.

Follow in the wake of Nacho Dean, the first Spaniard to go around the world on foot.

"At that time I was living in Poland working in a

call center

. I read his story and it captivated me in such a way that I understood that there was no going back, that at that moment in my life, launching myself on such a trip was the right thing to do. the only one that made sense, "he says.

Janowski, a Geology graduate, decided that his goal should be Australia.

Half the globe seemed enough of a challenge.

"I wanted to go around the world on foot, while walking along the paths of my inner self, reducing the speed and pace of life turning my back on a modern society and lifestyle that seemed to me to be excessively accelerated" .

A solo jogging car

But even at a slow cadence, the traveler needed to fend for himself.

Thus was born the idea of

Kinton

, as he calls the car that he wears attached to his waist and that gives him that centaur appearance.

"I needed a car where I could carry more belongings than I could carry in a normal backpack and that would allow me to cross deserts and remote areas where perhaps, for weeks,

I would not meet anyone

. I should therefore be able to transport my own water and food".

Searching the internet, he discovered a video of a man walking down the mountain and dragging a huge car.

The

Monowalker

was apparently the invention of

a Freiburg German

.

There Janowski planted himself to get one.

"It was perfect for me," he says.

At least until in France he slipped near a river hitting a rock that forced him to stand for a month and a half.

He took advantage of the stop to

modify the invention

, adding two additional wheels.

"With three wheels it was like a baby stroller and therefore much easier and more comfortable to carry. But if you wanted to cross a mountain or forest or terrain you could return it to its original shape."

This is how it has traveled to this day.

And why

Kinton

?

"It is an allusion to the anime character 'Son Goku' from

Dragon Ball

. One of my childhood idols and muse also on that trip."

With

Kinton

, Janowski has walked more or less uninterruptedly to Georgia crossing from the Turkish side on the road adjacent to the Black Sea Coast.

The Georgia break

In the first months of the coronavirus, Georgia turned out to be a safe harbor, with one of the lowest levels of infections.

Although the first days were not without adventures.

"Before the state of emergency I was still walking towards the border of the country with Azerbaijan and in those days I had numerous

strange reactions from people

: grocery stores denying me access (I was clearly a tourist) and whispers of ' corona-corona 'on the part of some when he happened to pass through some inhabited nucleus ".

One day he saw a

pick-up

full of orthodox monks standing right and left sanctifying as he passed ... "They raised expectations and you saw all the people there, crossing themselves ... as if that would save them from the crown. The scene seemed funny to me but I also realized that I had to

return to the capital

, where I was quarantined every month. "

Georgia's was an adventure he didn't count on but didn't regret.

"When restrictions were lifted within the country I decided that I couldn't be in a more beautiful place than this."

The million dollar question comes now.

What will 2021 bring?

"If in February-March traffic between borders is normalized and I can continue traveling east,

I will

continue.

I will put the fifth gear and try to get to Australia

and finish this project that I started with all the love and illusion in the world."
