  • From this Tuesday, children will be able to practice indoor sports, but they will not be able to indulge in contact sports.

If they are registered in judo for example, exit the fights, but physical training will be possible.

  • Wearing a mask will not be compulsory during sports practice.

On the other hand, it will be imperative once the child has finished his training.

  • For adults, indoor sports (gymnasiums, swimming pools, etc.) is still not authorized.

We will have to wait for the next stage of deconfinement to see if this will be possible, at least on January 7.

They will finally be able to dance, do push-ups or swim.

From this Tuesday, minors will be able to practice indoor sport in gymnasiums and swimming pools, announced Friday Jean-Michel Blanquer, the Minister of National Education, Youth and Sports, and Roxana Maracineanu, Minister Delegate in charge of Sports.

Good news, because if outdoor practice had resumed at the end of November and PE lessons had not been stopped, many children were deprived of one of their favorite pastime.

Especially since according to a study by the National Observatory of Physical Activity and Sedentary Life (Onaps) published in November, "42% of children and 59% of adolescents" have experienced an "alarming reduction in physical activity" during containment.

details how this recovery will unfold.

What sports will be allowed indoors again?

All except contact sports.

With a nuance all the same, because if your child does judo, boxing or handball, that does not mean that he will not have the right to go to his classes.

"The children will be able to take them back, but the sports educators will have to propose alternative practices so that the children do not touch each other", specifies at

the entourage of Roxana Maracineanu.

Clearly, if your child does handball, he will not play a match, if he does boxing, he will not do a fight.

"But he will be able to do physical preparation sessions, improve his movement, work on his body language ...", explains the Ministry of Sports ... Classes will resume in both associative and private clubs.

What about school sport?

The PE lessons, already possible in the open air, will therefore be able to resume in closed and covered sports facilities such as gymnasiums, swimming pools and indoor courts.

What will be the rules to follow when going to sports venues?

The resumption must respect the curfew put in place from Tuesday with a return home at 8 p.m.

It will therefore not be authorized in the evening, at least until January 7, the day when the health situation is scheduled to be reviewed.

But your child will no longer need an exit certificate and he will be able to attend his classes freely, even if they are taught in the next town.

Sports practice will no longer be limited in duration either.

What will be the health protocol?

Wearing a mask will not be compulsory during sports practice.

On the other hand, it will be imperative once the child has finished his training.

The collective changing rooms will be open again, so it is not essential to ask the children to arrive at their lessons in tracksuits so as not to have to change.

The training sessions must take place in places likely to be ventilated.

Ventilation by opening the windows will be permanent at best, or at least carried out several times during the day.

And too bad if your little ones are chilly!

The organizers will have to keep a name register of the children welcomed with the attendance times, in order to be able to trace any possible contact cases if one of the participants proves positive for the coronavirus.

The total number of minors who can be accommodated will not be limited from the outset, "but each structure will have to establish a gauge, if ever the premises are too small to maintain safety distances", specifies those around Roxana Maracineanu.

And logically "Parents are invited to take their child's temperature before departure for the activity in the event of a fever (38.0 ° C or more) or in the event of the appearance of symptoms evoking Covid-19 in the minor », Indicates the protocol.

Will the sports camps organized during the holidays take place?

“Yes, many associations and sports clubs will offer it during the winter holidays.

Especially since many children will not leave ”, indicates the Ministry of Sports.

And if usually, clubs and associations close during this period, some of them will not do so this year, to try to make up for the courses they have not been able to provide for a month.

In the mountains, the ski lifts will remain closed, "except for minors supervised by a federal club".

And the practice of snowshoes, cross-country skiing and ski touring, supervised or not, is authorized within the limit of 6 people.

Can families be reimbursed for lessons not taken during the month of confinement?

Many sports clubs are in financial difficulty this year, as the loss in terms of memberships has been estimated at 20% on average by the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF).

However, "private clubs are invited to offer a credit to families or to make up for the hours of lessons lost during confinement", indicates the Ministry of Sports.

Refunds will be more difficult to obtain.

For sports associations, the situation is a little different given their economic model.

"Some of them will offer remedial courses, but they will generally not offer assets," continues the entourage of Roxana Maracineanu.

Good to know, the government will launch in 2021 the device "pass sport", to help young people to practice a sporting activity.

This will be assistance for families to pay for club membership or purchase equipment.

If the criteria to obtain it are still unknown, "the envelope devoted to the device will be 100 million euros", indicates the Ministry of Sports.

When can adults return to indoor sport?

For adults, indoor sports (gymnasiums, swimming pools, etc.) is still not authorized.

We will have to wait for the next stage of deconfinement to see if this will be possible, at least on January 7.

Except always for high level athletes, physical education students, people suffering from chronic diseases, for example, who are prescribed sport by prescription, or people with recognized disabilities.

In outdoor sports facilities, the practice remains possible in compliance with the curfew and health protocols (physical distancing mandatory).
