According to media reports, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is expected to announce a strict lockdown in a television address that evening.

Among other things, all schools are planned to be closed by January 19, reports the broadcasters NOS and RTL, citing government circles.

Even shops that offer goods that are not urgently needed have to close.

According to the NOS, the same applies to museums, cinemas, zoos, day care centers and hairdressing salons.

Should it come to that, the measures would be stricter than those imposed in the Netherlands during the first virus wave between March and May.

At that time schools also had to close, but shops were allowed to stay open.

According to information from "Spiegel", the Federal Ministry of Defense is examining a compulsory corona vaccination for all around 180,000 Bundeswehr soldiers.

The general doctor in charge made a corresponding recommendation about three weeks ago, the magazine reported on Monday.

This was justified, among other things, with the close coexistence of the soldiers in barracks and during exercises.

Bundeswehr soldiers have already been obliged to have what is known as basic vaccination protection.

According to the troop medical recommendation, the vaccination against the coronavirus should also be included in this specification.

If the Ministry of Defense agrees, the vaccination would be a “tolerable measure” for all soldiers.
