In Iinan Town, Shimane Prefecture, which ships shimenawa to shrines nationwide, the production of the largest "Shimenawa" is coming to an end.

In Iinan Town, there are craftsmen who make shimenawa by receiving orders from shrines all over the country, including Izumo Taisha in the prefecture.

At the workshop, which is the base, the production of large shimenawa, which was requested by a shrine in Fukui prefecture, is now in the final stages.

This shimenawa is one of the largest in production, and about 10 craftsmen held two ropes with a diameter of about 40 cm and a length of about 7 meters and twisted them together with the shout of "Se-no". ..

After that, three cone-shaped decorations made by knitting straw called "Shimenawa" were attached, and a large rope weighing 235 kg was almost completed.

Shinji Ishibashi of the craftsmen's ridge said, "It was a difficult year, but I am relieved to be able to make a large rope because there was a time when the production was suspended due to the influence of the new coronavirus. I want you to have a pleasant New Year with a new shimenawa. "

After finishing the surface of this shimenawa, it will be shipped to a shrine in Fukui prefecture.
