France has recorded 508 new deaths from Covid-19 in twenty-four hours, bringing the number of deaths to 45,054 since the start of the epidemic.

The number of new cases was nevertheless at its lowest for weeks, according to daily data from Public Health France.

The number of confirmed cases since the start of the coronavirus epidemic stands at 1,991,233 with 9,406 new since the day before.

Due in part to the reduced amount of testing over the weekend, however, this figure is the lowest since October 12.

Record broken for hospitalizations

The number of people currently hospitalized in intensive care rose slightly to 4,903 patients against 4,880 the day before.

The health authorities report 366 new admissions against 270 the day before.

Over the past seven days, 2,643 patients have been hospitalized in intensive care, says SPF.

The number of people currently hospitalized has broken a new record, at 33,466 with 2,065 new patients within 24 hours.

During the epidemic peak in spring, it had reached a maximum of 32,292 in mid-April, a time when more than 6,500 people were in intensive care.

The positivity rate, however, fell to 16.4% from 16.9% Sunday and 19.8% a week ago.
