The emergency committee of the African Football Confederation (CAF) adopted, this Friday, November 6, several measures for the organization of the matches of the 3rd and 4th days of the CAN 2021 qualifiers (postponed to 2022).

Among them, the possibility of losing a meeting on the green carpet.

In order to avoid the postponement of some of the 48 matches scheduled from November 11 to 17 due to the health crisis, CAF plans a

"green carpet defeat"

2-0, if a

"team cannot go to the venue. match or receive a match due to travel restrictions or other reasons related to Covid-19 ”

.

To play these matches, a selection must have at least

"eleven players (including a goalkeeper) and four substitutes"

.

If this is not the case,

"it will be considered as having lost the match 2-0"

, adds CAF.

To avoid losing without playing, several coaches have taken the lead by choosing to call a greater number of players for this international window.

This is particularly the case of the Malian technician, Mohamed Magassouba, who unveiled a list of 37

"Eagles" on

Tuesday, November 3.

Possible exemptions behind closed doors

Another novelty compared to the first two days played a year ago: the African Football Confederation allows five changes per team during matches, as is currently the case in most European championships, except in England.

The same is true of the closed session, in effect almost everywhere, and which will be the norm for these meetings, except

"if the government of the host Association wishes the presence of spectators, then the Association in question will have to obtain CAF approval.

The maximum capacity of the stadium will, in all cases, be limited ”

.

Some exemptions could therefore be granted.
