After 69 years, I finally saw his father

At this moment, he cried like a child

Father joined the army at the age of four

Did not leave a photo at the time of sacrifice

Pi Susheng's father, Pi Juqiu, was born in September 1927.

Born in the war years, when he was a teenager, he was enlisted by the Japanese invaders to work as a porter in Wuhan for two years. He was not taken back to his hometown by fellow villagers until the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.

Because he had witnessed the atrocities committed by the Japanese army, Pi Juqiu realized the importance of defending his family.

In February 1951, Pi Juqiu, who was only 24 years old, signed up to participate in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea and became an engineer in the 316th Regiment of the 106th Division of the 36th Army of the Chinese People’s Volunteers. At that time, he was the father of two children and a young son was unborn. .

A few months later, he died a heroic death in the battle to take part in the repair of the North Korea’s Valcheon Airport.

Looking for a place to bury his father for decades

Pi Washeng was only four years old when his father died.

In his impression, his father is vague.

"As long as I can remember, I asked my father where he was. My grandparents only told me that my father died during the War of Resist US Aid Korea. But he didn't even leave a photo at the time of the sacrifice. The specific location of the burial is unknown." Pi Susheng said.

He has always had a wish since childhood: "Look for his father's cemetery, take him back to his hometown, and see what he looks like."

Pi Washeng enlisted in the army after graduating from high school.

"We want to inherit the legacy of our father and defend our home and country." After working, he has not stopped to pursue his father's graveyard.

In the past few decades, he has been paying attention to information about resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea, but there is no accurate information.

In 2010, the three brothers funded the repair of a monument for their father in their hometown, but they still had regrets, "No remains, no photos."

To find the father's grave

The three brothers went to Korea to visit the grave for their father

In 2019, with the help of the veterans of the Korean War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Pi Susheng joined a martyrs seeking family service group, and with the help of North Korea, he found the exact location of his father's grave.

On November 15, 2019, the three brothers went to North Korea to visit the grave for their father.

In December 2019, Pi Susheng found his father Pi Juqiu's name in Yongyeon, Gecheon County, South Pyongan Province, North Korea.

Pi Susheng said that for this moment, their brothers have been waiting for decades.

His little brother was not born when his father died. After entering the cemetery, he burst into tears and couldn't kneel down.

Before leaving, they brought a little soil in the cemetery and put it in an ashes after returning home and placed it in front of the Pi Juqiu Martyrs Monument.

Wait 69 years

The veteran finally "see you again" with his father

Before his retirement, Lin Yuhui was a senior engineer in the Audiovisual Room of the Material Evidence Appraisal Center of the Shandong Provincial Public Security Department. He has provided critical technical support for dozens of major cases.

Two years ago, he set the goal of free portraits for 100 martyrs, and has now completed more than 30 paintings.

After understanding the deeds of Pi Washeng's father in detail, Lin Yuhui began to analyze and simulate the portrait.

Through face-to-face observation, plus three old photos of himself, his younger brother, and his uncle provided by the old man Piwa, Lin Yuhui finally simulated the portrait after conceiving and modifying it overnight.

But according to the memories of the old family, the martyr Pi Juqiu wore winter clothes when he joined the army.

Lin Yuhui changed the summer clothes in the original portrait to winter clothes according to the requirements of the elderly's family.

Through a video call, Pi Washeng witnessed the restoration of his father's appearance with his second brother and uncle in Changsha.

At this moment, the old man waited for 69 years.

"The family members who have seen my father say they look so alike. When I saw the eyes of my father in the portrait, I felt that he was staring at me too, and tears came out all of a sudden." Sheng said that at that time there was only one wish in his heart: "Dad, I want to take you home."

Today, Pi Susheng has made a portrait of his father into a porcelain portrait and placed it on the Pi Juqiu Martyrs Monument.

He said: "The dream of seeking relatives in 69 years is finally over, this time is really complete!"
