• Criticism Christopher Nolan has done it again

On paper it is a James Bond spy movie. And also on paper, the director does nothing more than delve into a good part of the obsessions that have haunted every second of his filmography . ' Tenet ' retells, like ' Memento ', a story from back to front. And backwards. 'Tenet' insists on tracing the identity split because of time as in 'Interstellar'.

'Tenet' returns to the universe of lopsided and deconstructed realities exactly as in 'Following', 'Origin' or 'The Dark Knight'. 'Tenet' is a leap into the void where each piece of time filmed contradicts the logic of intuition. And here it is time to quote 'Dunquerke'. On the screen, instead, it is exactly that and something else, much louder. The last film of the most admired, discussed and even reviled director (all at once) is essentially spectacular cinema designed for perplexity and amazement.

The film stars John David Washington as the lead. Beside him, Robert Pattinson and Elizabet Debicki . And in front, as world-destroying villain, Kenneth Branagh. Seven points of the planet have been traveled for its filming. The music of Ludwig Göransson, who replaces the usual Hans Zimmer, and the photography of Hoyte van Hoytema are just some of the most successful pieces of this puzzle designed to overwhelm, to recover the grace of the simplest of visual effects: the possibility of make time run backwards.

The title is itself a palindrome borrowed from the oldest and most labyrinthine of the palindromes: the Sator Square . In it, the words SATOR, AREPO, TENET, OPERA and ROTAS, arranged one above the other, form the enigmatic and multipalindromic square whose oldest example is located in the Roman ruins of Pompeii. TENET, in the center, forms a cross that is palindrome in any direction: top to bottom, back to front, and vice versa.
