On August 20th, according to one of the injured, the distance between the slid tourists was only two or three meters. The rain caused the sliding speed to be too fast, and some tourists lost control and collided with each other. A person in charge of the Hugu Gorge scenic area, surnamed Gao, said that the scenic area is willing to pay the medical expenses of the injured and cooperate with the investigation team to find out the cause of the accident.

Injured: The sliding speed is too fast, the tourists out of control and collide

At 11:30 on August 19, a glass slide crash occurred in the Huguxia Scenic Area, Huanren Manchu Autonomous County, Benxi City, Liaoning Province, causing one death and many injuries.

According to Li Yang, a tourist, before the incident, a group of more than 60 people waited at the entrance of the glass slide at the same time, and then began to slide under the command of the scenic staff. "It had rained in the scenic area that morning, and the staff wiped the slide. Later, the rain began to fall again, which made the slide more and more slippery."

Li Yang mentioned that when sliding on the glass slide, the distance between each person is only about two or three meters. Because the slide was wet and the sliding speed was too fast, some tourists lost control and were injured in a collision at the corner; in addition, some people tried to slow down and brake, causing crowds on the slide, and further collisions between front and rear tourists.

"I was in the middle of the descending queue. I hit the guardrail and collided with other people on the way." Li Yang said that his hands, arms, legs, knees, and head had bruises and abrasions to varying degrees. He went to the hospital afterwards. Filming revealed a fracture.

The live video shows that there are two rows of glass slides, each with a width of about one meter. The top and bottom are transparent glass, and both sides are protected by barbed wire.

The Hugu Gorge Scenic Area once introduced on the official WeChat that a pair of camouflage shorts must be worn before the glass slide goes down, and the buttocks are wrapped with special materials. The whole journey at a constant speed takes about 1 minute, and visitors can slow down by hand through the guardrails on both sides. The slide is also equipped with corners, the material is not glass, but stone.

Scenic area: willing to pay the medical expenses of the injured

At noon on the 20th, Huguxia Scenic Area issued a notice on this matter, saying that at about 13:30 on the 19th, when some tourists in the scenic area took the downhill glass slide, due to sudden rain and excessive sliding speed, a collision occurred and one person was caused. He died and many people were injured. The injured have been sent to the County People's Hospital for treatment in time, without life threatening.

A video provided by Li Yang showed that there was a canopy at the exit of the slideway. After the incident, tourists rested here. Some of them had blood stains on their faces and blood-stained toilet paper was scattered on the scene.

Li Yang estimates that there may be dozens of injured tourists, including the elderly and children.

In addition, Li Yang mentioned that the deceased was a man and his wife was also injured in the accident. About half an hour after the incident, rescuers arrived at the scene, the injured were taken to the county hospital, and the more severely injured were transferred to a hospital in Shenyang for treatment.
