France has 493 new positive cases for Covid-19, according to figures published by the Directorate General of Health (GGS). But what the ministry emphasizes is the "increase for three weeks" in hospitalizations, "especially among those under 40". French hospitals have thus admitted 234 new patients with coronavirus in the last 24 hours, against 173 on Friday, the day of the last daily update of the DGS.

Thirty-four patients were also admitted to intensive care units, against 20 on Friday. Resuscitation departments have 384 people hospitalized with a coronavirus infection, 17 more than Friday. The number of people in intensive care thus rose to the level observed on July 28.

23 deaths since Friday, 21 new outbreaks

In France, 30,429 people have died since the start of the epidemic (i.e. 23 additional deaths since Friday), including 19,924 in hospitals and 10,505 in social and medico-social establishments (these figures, dating from last week, will be updated on Tuesday).

The percentage of positive tests continued to increase, to 2.9% against 2.4% on Friday, and 21 new foci of clustered cases were detected, points out the DGS.

“In mainland France, the number of new cases of Covid per 100,000 inhabitants (incidence) is increasing in all age groups. The increase is particularly marked among 25-35 year olds, ”she also observes. "Almost half of the people for whom the RT-PCR (virological) test was positive did not show any symptoms but were therefore likely to transmit the Covid to their close contacts", she adds.
