On August 16, at the age of 78, a Soviet and Russian actor, director, the last Minister of Culture of the USSR, People's Artist of the RSFSR Nikolai Gubenko died. He starred with such directors as Marlen Khutsiev, Gleb Panfilov and Sergey Bondarchuk. Gubenko himself directed a number of films. His film "Wounded" was presented at the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival and claimed the main prize. Nikolay Gubenko devoted many years to the Taganka Theater. In addition, from 1989 to 1991, he headed the USSR Ministry of Culture. Later, he headed the State Duma Committee for Culture and Tourism and was a member of the Council for Culture and Arts under the President of Russia.
