  • 436 deaths have occurred in Occitania since the start of the coronavirus epidemic and 105 patients are still in intensive care.
  • For the May 11 deconfinement, the health authorities hope to reach a capacity of 20,000 tests per day.
  • General practitioners will be on the front line.

In Occitania, at the peak of the Covid-19 epidemic, resuscitation services received up to 550 patients. There were only 105 left Wednesday evening, which makes say Pierre Ricordeau, the director of the regional agency of Health, that "confinement allowed for several weeks a significant decline." Other warning lights are green five days after deconfinement: emergencies welcome less than 50 people per day for suspected coronavirus, against 300 at the height of the crisis and the rate of positivity of targeted tests fell from 25% to approximately 5%.

[#Coronavirus] 3 figures to continue to protect our loved ones from # COVID19: to date in #Occitania, 535 patients are hospitalized (including 115 in intensive care) and 436 people have died in healthcare establishments.

But if "the hospital system has found a little bit of leeway", Pierre Ricordeau calls for caution - especially for strict compliance with the last days of confinement and the application of barrier gestures - because, he says, "the virus is still circulating as on the whole of the national territory ”.

1.6 million swabs ordered

The boss of the health authorities outlined this Wednesday the surveillance system that will prevail in Occitania after May 11 for the long awaited deconfinement. As everywhere in France, the tests will remain "targeted" he warns. But he hopes, after ordering 1.6 million swabs for the various laboratories, to reach a capacity "close to 20,000 tests per day", against 6,000 to 10,000 so far.

For residents, the first reflex will be to contact their general practitioner. It is he who will prescribe the test and, in the event of positivity, who will be responsible for looking for any other symptoms in the family sphere. For the “level 2” of the investigation, relating to people encountered during the contagious period, the relay will pass to a platform managed by Health Insurance. Finally, in the event of a cluster or the appearance of cases in collective establishments, the ARS teams will be responsible for the file.

Our file on deconfinement

Since the start of the epidemic, the Occitanie region has suffered 436 deaths in healthcare establishments. The most affected departments are Hérault (113), Gard (72) in front of Haute-Garonne (54) and Aude (53). There has only been one death in Lozère.
