Coronavirus: The homeless, the forgotten ones of the crisis - 20 Minutes

While the French are confined to their homes to fight the coronavirus crisis, the homeless remain forgotten outside.

On April 2, Minister of Housing Julien Denormandie announced 7,600 additional hotel spaces for a total of 170,000 people accommodated. He added the installation of a service voucher system of 15 million euros for 60,000 homeless people.

The only ones to occupy the deserted streets

However, the following week, 92 signatory associations, NGOs and collectives, including Amnesty International, the League for Human Rights and Médecins sans Frontières seized seven UN special rapporteurs in order to "alert" the situation of precarious people in managing the crisis in France.

In Paris, the homeless are the only ones occupying the deserted streets. In view of the sharp drop in population flows in cities, their main resource, begging, becomes very difficult. While the associations have resumed their raids in order to rescue people living on the street, the generosity of the few passers-by is also a way to help them.
