Water deficits accumulated over several years and still insufficient rain. On Monday, the prefect of the Rhône placed the pliocene groundwater in the Val de Saône and the corridors of Heyrieux and Meyzieu in eastern Lyon on drought alert.

"This situation leads to strengthening the vigilance measures on groundwater, taken on March 12, 2020, due to a continuous drop in the level of the water tables," said the prefecture on Tuesday, which therefore issued a new decree to restrict the water use in the driest areas. Namely, part of Beaujolais (around Saint-Georges de Reneins, in the north of the department, and around Heyrieux, Corbas and Meyzieu, in the south east. (Map below).

In these three zones, “for professional uses, including agricultural, a reduction of 25% of the samples taken from the environment must be implemented. For domestic and pleasure uses, the restriction measures apply regardless of the origin of the water, ”state government departments detail.

All rivers in the department (surface water) have also been placed on the alert. No particular restrictions for the time being, but everyone is invited to have an economical use of water.
