  • Closed since March 15, hotels, bars and restaurants fear for their future.
  • On social networks, it is said that more than 16,000 restaurants are already on sale on the Pôle Emploi site.
  • A figure that is roughly the same as last year because the consequences of the epidemic are not yet felt in the sector.

They are the big losers from the coronavirus pandemic. The hotels (92%), bars and restaurants have all been closed since March 15, 2020 and are not about to reopen. If May 11, 2020, the date of the start of deconfinement, many companies will restart, it will not be the case for the hotel and restaurant sector. For the time being, no date has yet been set for the reopening of these places which welcome the public. But many already fear an economic disaster in the sector. And for some, it would even be noticeable already.

On social networks, a tweet, which refers to the Pôle Emploi site, announces that restaurant sales are already exploding. By going to the site, there are more than 16,500 advertisements for the sale of restaurants, snacks or even pancake shops for sale on April 21, 2020. "A real online real estate site", quips Tropical Boy, the Twitter account which relays this information . A way of saying that many traders are already shutting down because of the coronavirus.

🍴 REAL ESTATE

FAKE OFF

Contacted on the subject, Pôle Emploi states that "verification made, if we limit ourselves to business takeovers, 10,473 offers (for restaurateur-restauratrice) are available on our site". A figure that is nothing exceptional. "It's a level that is almost the same compared to last year in the same month," continues the site.

Same story on the side of sites specializing in business takeovers. In connection with all the chambers of commerce in France and the chambers of trade, the Trans Entreprise site centralizes all the announcements of business disposals. And no particular increase has yet been observed in the bars, hotels and restaurants.

“Currently, there are no more sales than usual in this sector. I know that many people have questions about aid, what happens next but also about the transfer of businesses. But between the questions that arise and what will really happen, we do not yet have a vision. Generally, a disposal project is not decided overnight, it is reflected. It's a little bit early today but it could evolve in the coming months, ”we recognize at Trans Entreprise.

If the concern of the sector is very real in view of the economic context, the consequences of these long-term closures are not yet felt. Even if a tsunami is feared in the middle, it has not yet swept over the hexagon.

To avoid the worst, the Union of Trades in Industry and Hotel Industry (UMIH) is working in concert with the government to reopen bars, hotels and restaurants "as of June provided all precautions are taken necessary sanitary facilities, ”recognizes the employers' organization. One thing is certain: everything will be done to reopen during the summer season. Otherwise, almost half of the establishments could close their doors at the start of the school year. The countdown begins.
