Presentation by the Gironde firefighters of the means of fighting forest fires. - M.Bosredon / 20Minutes

Thick white smoke was visible all around Bordeaux this Tuesday late afternoon. A major fire started around 4 p.m. at the Souge military camp, in the town of Martignas-sur-Jalle, near Bordeaux, says the Gironde prefecture.

"This fire requires the deployment of a hundred firefighters, said Tuesday evening at 20 minutes the captain of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis 33) Matthieu Jomain. We have firefighting, logistical and command resources. We also deployed specific vehicles such as a caterpillar, a kind of armored vehicle, because of the quality of the ground: the Souge military camp is an enclosure interspersed with ditches. We also have the assistance of our reconnaissance and investigation helicopter, and the support of a Civil Protection Dash aircraft which is on site. "

It is still too early to have information on the origin of this fire. Provincial road 107E2 had been cut off for a while, but was reopened. The prefecture asks however to avoid the area.
