The government and the professionals of the building and public works announced Saturday to have found a common ground in order to maintain the activity of the majority of the building sites in spite of the epidemic of coronavirus.

The two parties "agreed on several principles to strengthen, in the next few days, the continuity of activity in the sector and the continuation of construction sites," said a joint statement to several ministries (Ecological transition, Economy, City, Labor) and three professional federations (of building, public works and the Confederation of crafts and small construction companies).

Recommendations and "good practices"

"In many cases, reorganizations or adjustments to practices could allow the continuation of the activity," write the signatories of the agreement. This requires “adapted procedures” to respect barrier gestures and distance between employees. A “guide to good practices” validated by the government will be distributed by professionals in order to clarify the recommendations.

"In the case of public works sites, such as for example transport infrastructure or road works, the main owners at the national level and the prefects at the local level will coordinate and prioritize the sites to be continued or revived", also specifies the press release.

“In the case of very complex sites, a delay may be necessary in order to define suitable procedures. Likewise, special attention will be paid to the case of construction sites at the homes of individuals when they are present, ”he adds.

A conflict had risen this week between professionals, who deemed it untenable to continue the work, and the government, who saw it as an essential activity for the economy. The Minister of Labor Muriel Pénicaud had accused a sector federation of "defeatism".
