It had been hopelessly empty for several weeks. After the cancellation to the chain of fairs and, since Thursday, of the Cannes Festival, the Croisette convention center will be used differently. Faced with the coronavirus epidemic, the town hall announces that it will make its 35,000 m2 "available to health authorities if necessary" and will also install "an SDF reception center" there this Friday evening.

Located on the ground floor of the palace, “the 'Hall of professionals' space is made available to the Communal Center for Social Action of the town hall of Cannes to open a reception center, night and day”, indicates the municipality.

In addition to the permanent municipal site of the Foyer Lycklama, it will offer “beds, a meal service, showers”, all “while respecting all the distances and sanitary requirements required for SDF reception centers”, is it also specified.

Open in case of "mass influx of patients"

The Palais des Festivals also responded to the call from the French Union of Event Trades (Unimev) by proposing its use "to relieve hospital structures" as part of a "massive influx of patients".

Concretely, the exhibition spaces could be transformed into a field hospital and are therefore made available "to best support the health authorities and make up for the lack of places they may have to face", says the Croisette congress center. .

“Cannes wanted to participate in the health mobilization of the event sector initiated by Unimev. Our support for healthcare professionals, public and private, is total. The protection of populations is an absolute priority ”, advance the mayor LR of Cannes David Lisnard. The Victory Palace, used for volleyball matches in the west of the city, is also available for the possible reception of patients.
