Last week the organizers in Gothenburg made the decision to cancel the celebration at Heden in Gothenburg and now the organizers in Malmö also choose to cancel.

“After close dialogue with our audience, our associations as well as international artists and guests, we have made the decision to cancel the Eldfesten 2020. We all have a responsibility to prevent continued spread of infection and must take it safe before the uncertain. Of course, it feels very boring as the Fire Festival is an annual tradition with world-class artists and a fantastic community, says Dritëro Kasapi, theater director Riksteatern, in a press release.

The fire, or "Chaharshanbeh suri" as it is called in Persian, is a non-religious celebration that has been celebrated for thousands of years, despite bans in some countries. It is part of the Iranian New Year Nouroz.
