Patrice Beaumelle was named coach of the Ivory Coast national team, this March 4, 2020 in Abidjan. The 41-year-old Frenchman replaces the Ivorian Ibrahim Kamara. The former assistant of Hervé Renard has the advantage of knowing local football well since he won the CAN 2015 with the "Elephants".

He was labeled eternal assistant to Hervé Renard. But this March 4, 2020, Patrice Beaumelle may have given new impetus to his coaching career. After assisting his compatriot in Zambia (2008-2010, then 2011-2013), in Angola (2010-2011), in the Algerian club of USMA (2011) and that of French LOSC (2015), the elderly technician 41 years old was chosen to take sole control of the Ivory Coast national team. A selection that he also attended as a member of the staff, in 2014 and 2015. Patrice Beaumelle lived a great adventure there since he won the African Cup of Nations 2015 with the “Elephants”.

Patrice Beaumelle was preferred to several compatriots in particular, including Sébastien Desabre, ex-coach of ASEC Mimosas (2010-2012) or Uganda (2017-2019) and who was the favorite to succeed Ibrahim Kamara.

In Africa, Patrice Beaumelle has a flattering record since he also won the CAN 2012 with the Zambians. He had also taken the "Chipolopolo" in hand, in 2013-2014, after sitting there on the sidelines next to Hervé Renard. It was, to date, his only experience as chief technician of a national A team.

Departure from Morocco

Patrice Beaumelle has been working in Morocco since 2016 where he lived in the African Cups of Nations 2017 and 2019, just like the 2018 World Cup with the “Atlas Lions”. When Hervé Renard had left for Saudi Arabia, the applicant had remained in Rabat. He then took charge of the under 23s. But the latter had failed to qualify for CAN U23 in Egypt.

Patrice Beaumelle's contract ended up being broken by the Royal Moroccan Federation (FRMF). The Frenchman was free. Here he is back - provided he signs his contract - in Abidjan where he will find Serge Aurier, Éric Bailly, Wilfried Kanon and Sylvain Gbohouo.
