The Ministry of Health will intensify surveillance in areas with coronavirus infections where their origin has not yet been identified. This was stated by the director of the Center for Coordination of Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health, Fernando Simón, who explained that these more comprehensive studies will be carried out in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) - where there have been 7 of the 14 infections in Madrid , the area of Malaga and Marbella in Andalusia, a municipality in the Basque Country -for a case admitted to the Txagorritxu Hospital that has not yet been able to be filmed- and another in Catalonia.

"Public Health officials will be summoned to improve sensitivity in these areas and detect any possible case," said Simón.

In any case, the Health expert stressed that there is still no evidence that there is an uncontrolled transmission of the virus in our country.

"There has been some transmission, but not broad. If so, it should have generated many secondary cases that are not occurring, " he added.

The health authorities continue to investigate each particular case in order to identify the transmission lines. Of the 73 cases currently reported in Spain, the link with an import from a risk zone has not yet been found in nine infected.

"In Andalusia and the Basque Country the research is practically closed," he said.

To intensify surveillance in areas where there could have been some transmission of cases, such as Torrejón, Health will assess together with the Autonomous Communities and those responsible for Public Health what measures to take.

Among other initiatives, Simón explained, hospital surveillance could be considered not only for severe cases of pneumonia with no identified origin - as is the case now - but also for the milder stages.

Likewise, the need to monitor health personnel who present symptoms and meet certain risk criteria, use certain health centers as sources of case evaluation or use the flu case monitoring system that already exists as a sentry will be assessed. Evaluate the situation.

"We have to see which of these measures are the most feasible and appropriate in each case," Simón concluded.
