The Ministry of Health has intensified surveillance in areas with coronavirus infections in which their origin has not yet been identified. Of the 73 infections already in Spain, 9 of them do not have an import link , according to Fernando Simón , director of the Center for Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health.

"In nine of the cases we do not have perfectly established the link with the importation," said Simón, who has indicated that surveillance has intensified in the areas where these cases are found, such as "in Andalusia, the area of Malaga and Marbella ; we have the Torrejón de Ardoz area , in Madrid; a municipality in the Basque Country , associated with a case that is not affiliated with the origin. And then an event, of which we know the origin, but which because of its situation we are interested in investigating , which is that of a doctor who traveled to Munich . "

The case of Torrejón , in Madrid, is one of the most striking. Of the 14 infections confirmed in the Community of Madrid, seven come from this town .

"It is an area in which we have a lot of interest. We have been able to identify some people with symptoms before the index case and they are being cautious. Thus, all those who have had contact with the cases are being investigated. In addition, an investigation is being carried out. epidemiological that allows to identify those cases, "said Simon, who has also assured that" current cases do not pose a risk because they are well controlled and potentially associated cases are being tried to be controlled in the best way. "

In this sense, Simón recalled that they are a priori easy research, but that require many resources. The autonomous communities are doing "exhaustive" work because knowing the origin of each infection is not a mere interview, but there are telephone contacts with many people .

Among the most worrying cases at the national level, Simón has referred to " three" people affected by "serious" respiratory problems and who are hospitalized in health centers in Madrid, Castilla La Mancha and Navarra. The first of them was a 77-year-old from Madrid who remains at the ICU of the Torrejón Hospital "stable within gravity" but evolves "with relatively good prudence".

Finally, the director of the Center for Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health referred to the case of an Ecuadorian woman residing in Madrid and who is in critical condition admitted to her home country after traveling there two weeks ago. He admitted that this case may be related to the focus of Torrejón de Ardoz and stressed that the authorities of the Latin American country are allowing the "very rapid exchange of information" with Spain.

He noted that the Community of Madrid is investigating "all possible links" of this woman to detect those who have been able to infect before traveling to Ecuador, as well as in other autonomous communities to which she could have moved the previous days . This case may not be the only one with similar characteristics , since Health has detected as many infected as possible that would have traveled in previous weeks to "other countries", including some in Latin America.
