The German environmental party die Grüne, the left party die Linke and to some extent liberal FDP all seem to have joined the proposal to get nightclubs to be included as cultural institutions. Right now, a nightclub has the same status as a brothel or gaming hall and there is talk of "club deaths" in Berlin, as a large number of clubs have closed down over the past ten years, as gentrification has become increasingly evident in the city.
If nightclubs were to be recognized as cultural institutions, they would have to pay VAT of seven percent, rather than at present.
