A February 7, 1940 premiered at the Central Theater in New York Pinocchio , the tender story of the wooden boy whose innocence, goodness and generosity has conquered millions of people in these 80 years and that still remains one of the classics Disney's most wanted.

And this despite the fact that it was not a success at the time of its premiere . But with the passage of time it became one of the most appreciated titles in animated cinema and ranks second in the list of the 10 best animated films in the history of the American Film Institute (AFI).

It is only overcome by Snow White and the seven dwarfs (1937), which was precisely Disney's first feature film, followed by Pinocchio .

The film adaptation of the Italian story The Adventures of Pinocchio by writer Carlo Collodi was a very complicated project, so much so that at a time of production it was believed that Bambi , who was also in preparation, would be released before.

The main problem was in the design of Pinocchio , which was rounded to make it more empathetic and enjoyable for spectators. To achieve what would be the final drawing, Disney changed draftsmen and the strokes of the small wooden dummy went through dozens of hands to achieve the appearance we all know.

But it wasn't just the appearance that changed the Disney Pinocchio with respect to Collodi's.

Collodi's original describes Pinocchio at the beginning as a character full of evil and selfishness , while in the Disney film we find an adorable and kind child with flushed cheeks , which although a little liars, has a good heart.

But one of the most notable differences takes place with the character of Pepito Grillo (Jiminy Cricket in the original English version), which Disney wanted him to look like a human being and specifically asked him to wear costumes like anyone else.

The little character became one of the protagonists of the film , acting as a kind of voice of Pinocchio's conscience, while Collodi's literary work has a sporadic appearance and is crushed by the wooden boy at the first change.

The importance of Pepito Grillo transcended the Ósca r awards . The emblematic song that starts "Pinocchio," When You Wish Upon a Star , and is sung by singer Cliff Edwards, who gives voice to this character, got what would be the first statuette for Disney to win the prize for Best original song.

The film also won the Oscar for best soundtrack for "Pinocchio", created by Leigh Harline, Ned Washington and Paul J. Smith .

An excellent cinematic result that did not lead to the blockbuster that Snow White had achieved, due to the situation in Europe by the Second World War . This fact affected so much that Pinocchio only doubled to Spanish and Portuguese , according to the AFI website.

Today, however, "Pinocchio" is one of the great children's classics in the history of cinema. The passage of time has turned it into a cult film and a Disney brand image.

His story, about the importance of sincerity and being a good person - which ends up allowing the adorable puppet to become a child of flesh and blood - is already part of popular culture and has passed from generation to generation during these 80s years.

And it is difficult to find someone who has not been excited about a movie that begins with the endearing carpenter Geppetto shaping the wooden puppet. At the end, ask a shooting star as a wish that the wooden doll becomes a real child and the Blue Fairy brings Pinocchio to life.

The process of learning Pinocchio throughout the film resembles that of any real child , which facilitates the identification of spectators with a film whose charm remains intact 80 years after its premiere. Because, who hasn't ever said that if you lie, your nose grows?
