The Lyon-born actress tells 20 Minutes about her integration into the “Skamfamily”, composed so far of hearing actors and technicians.
How did you get into "Skam France"?
The International Visual Theater transmitted a video which said that there was a casting and that Skam France was looking for deaf actors. At first, I didn't really pay attention to it. And it was my father who said to me, "Go! Try to pass this casting ”. In my family, it is true, that there are many artists and actors. I sent a video for this casting. I met David Hourrègue, the director, who flashed on me. It is true that I was very scared at the start. I was a fan from the start of the Norwegian series Skam. The answer was to arrive normally three days after the meeting and the next day, I knew I was taken. It was a big surprise for me! I had a hard time realizing the luck I had but I was very motivated to carry this responsibility of representing the deaf world.
How was the shooting?
I really did my best. I tried to overcome the obstacles and I gave everything and all that, thanks to the support of the team. The team was very welcoming, very warm, attentive, understanding and attentive. They took the time to communicate with me. It was also a great source of motivation to give them everything. It was a great moment of magic, I plunged into another world. Coming back to real life, I thought to myself, "This is phew! "Little by little, we are taking back our brands and habits too.
How would you describe Noée?
When I read the script, I discovered Noée who is a storm. I called it that in sign language, because it's a real storm. She is a rocker, she is anti-social, rebellious. I said to myself, "It's perfect," because she looks a lot like me. In terms of character, we are very close, she and me. It was easy for me to play. It also allowed me to learn lots of new things!
How do you see the relationship between Noée and Arthur?
It is an intense and deep relationship. Noée, it's his light! Arthur, he's at the bottom of the hole, he completely plunged when they met. So she is there to fish him out and tell him that there are other deaf people like him. She is there to reassure him and tell him that he is not alone. It brings him positivity and the keys to approaching this new world that he discovers. Arthur belatedly discovers the world of the deaf. He is prospecting, he is lost, he does not understand, he is in between. Thanks to Noée, he discovers his identity and accepts this new world that comes to him. She opens the doors to him.
What were the first reactions after the broadcast of the first sequences with Noée?
I was surprised to see that by simply being in a ten-second shot, there are so many reactions, congratulations! I could see that many spectators do not know the world of the deaf. Some used the expression "deaf language" instead of "sign language". Others had pity reactions and said to me, “Oh, poor girl! », That sort of thing ... But, I think it's good because Skam France will change the look and show that anything is possible. It is all the more useful. These are the reactions of hearing people, there are blunders, misunderstandings, that's normal. The deaf reaction is delicate. The deaf are a minority, who have suffered a lot in the past, with misrepresentations, blunders, etc. There is a lot of sensitivity to this. So it can cause nervousness in the community. So you always have to be very careful about that.
