Research groups such as the University of Tokyo have announced that they were able to make new building materials from concrete and wood waste, such as when dismantling buildings.

When a building is demolished, a large amount of concrete and wood waste is generated, but until now only a small portion has been reused as building material.

A research group led by Yuya Sakai, a lecturer at the University of Tokyo, announced that it was possible to create new building materials by mixing concrete debris with waste materials such as cedar and cypress and compressing them while heating.

The research group found that a component called lignin came out of the wood, which had the effect of re-adhering the concrete particles, which led to this result.

We want to check the strength of the new material over time, and say that it can be used as a sidewalk block or tile.

Lecturer Sakai says, "We will continue to verify strength and aim for commercialization in a few years."
