An Indonesian official today announced the cancellation of a contest on Sulawesi Island to free a crocodile from a motorcycle stuck around his neck, due to the lack of progress of anyone to participate in the competition.

For the first time in 2016, a saltwater crocodile and motorcycle tire was detected in a river that runs through Palu, the capital of Central Sulawesi. At the time, provincial environmental and wildlife conservation agency officials feared the tire would strangle the crocodile when it grew up.

The agency's president, Hasmouni Hasmar, last week offered to offer a reward to anyone who could remove the frame from the crocodile, but he refused to announce the details of the award, fearing that this would attract "reckless" people to apply to participate in the competition.
"No one cared, so we canceled the competition," said Hasmar.
