The CLCV consumer association draws up a “half-hearted” assessment of the hygiene controls carried out in 2019 in food establishments. Last year, 41,779 checks were carried out, 3.7% more than last year. The results have been published for three years on the site and the "Alim'confiance" application, recalls Les Echos.

The association is pleased first of all that the establishments audited get a good overall rating. The hygiene of 94% of them is thus deemed "satisfactory", even "very satisfactory".

Bakeries and delicatessens in the lowest rated

However, the CLCV points to disparities. The scores already vary according to the categories of the establishments checked. The cheese dairies, with only 3.8% of the establishments controlled which have to improve their hygiene, are the ones which are doing the best. This is followed by warehousing (3.3%) and food transportation establishments (2.5%). At the other end of the ranking, the category of bakeries, pastries, chocolate and ice cream makers gets the lowest score. 18.8% need to improve their hygiene. Next are the bread / viennoiserie / pâtisserie departments of supermarkets (10.5%), then butchers-delicatessens (8.9% for the departments, 8.6% for establishments).

The CLCV also notes regional disparities. Several overseas departments are pinned. 27.3% of establishments inspected in Reunion must therefore improve their hygiene, 21.9% in Guyana, 15.9% in Guadeloupe and 14.2% in Mayotte. At the head, we find Paris, with only 2 to 3% of the establishments controlled which must improve their hygiene, followed by Corsica (2.2%).

The need for a better distribution of controls on the territory

The CLCV draws from this assessment two recommendations. First, to better distribute controls across the territory. More than a quarter of the 41,779 inspections were carried out in Ile-de-France, the vast majority in Paris, regrets the consumer association. "Conversely, some departments are almost excluded from controls," she regrets.

The CLCV also invites, in the future, to prioritize the types of establishments that obtained the least good results last year. By controlling more, for example, bakeries and delicatessens.
