Netflix continues to be inspired by Japanese titles to create new series of global appeal. After announcing the adaptation of the acclaimed anime Cowboy Bebop in 2017, the streaming giant will turn the popular One Piece comic into a series. Both productions, of real action, will be embodied by actors of flesh and blood.

One Piece is the best-selling manga in history with more than 460 million copies . It tells the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, a group of pirates who explore a fantastic world of endless oceans and exotic islands in search of the last treasure in the world, known as the title of comics, One Piece .

The veteran screenwriter of Lost or File X Steven Maeda will write and produce the adaptation, also acting as a showrunner. Matt Owens ( SHIELD Agents , Luke Cage ) will also participate as a screenwriter and producer. And Eiichiro Oda, author of the manga, will act as executive producer, according to Deadline .

The first season of One Piece will have 10 episodes and will be co-produced by Netflix and Tomorrow Studios, a company that is also developing the aforementioned Cowboy Bebop . The manga publisher, Shueisha, will also be part of the project.

This is not the first adaptation of c1One Piecec2, although it will be the first real action. According to Variety, the manga has inspired 14 animated films and a long anime that has already reached 20 seasons.
