The end of 2019 in the Moscow region may come cooling and precipitation. This was reported in the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia. According to the acting director of this institution, Roman Villefund, the night of December 30 may be the coldest for the whole month.

“On Sunday and Monday night, the high pressure area will determine the weather, the anticyclone will be really powerful. The night is expected to be frosty. We predict that it will be the coldest night in December. In Moscow, night temperatures are -6 ...- 4 ° С, in the region down to -9 ° С, ”Wilfand RT said.

In addition, in the last days of 2019, a decrease in pressure and an increase in temperature will be observed. He added that precipitation in the form of snow is expected on December 31.

“On December 31, the center of the Central Federal District will be located in the area of the warm sector of the cyclone. The temperature will be positive, +1 ... + 3 ° C, and precipitation is small. On New Year's Eve, it is expected from -4 ° C to 0 ° C, ”added Wilfand.

According to the site of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, the weather in the central part of Russia will change dramatically in the afternoon of December 30. This will be due to the movement of the atmospheric fronts of the North Atlantic cyclone from north to south.

“Atmospheric pressure will drop significantly, the region will cover snowfall. A strong wind is expected in the front zone, gusts of which in places will reach 13-18 m / s, blizzard. In this case, the temperature background will start to rise again, and on the night of December 31, the thermometer columns will again reach the zero mark, ”the message says.

In this case, snow gradually turning into wet snow is also expected at night on December 31, in some places a snowstorm will start with a south-west wind of 6-11 m / s, with gusts of 13-18 m / s. In addition, weather forecasters predict the formation of "snow cover up to 5 cm high."

Meanwhile, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist in the Moscow weather bureau, in an interview with RT stressed that in the last days of 2019 the weather in the capital region will be unstable. So, according to her, a thaw will replace light frosts.

“On the 30th the wind will increase, the temperature in Moscow will be about -3 ...- 1 ° С. On the night of December 31, a little snow will remain in some places. Sometimes the temperature will be slightly negative, on the day of the 31st the temperature may rise to the thaw, but it will change just in the last days of the outgoing year, ”she said.

At the same time, the meteorologist added that in the future, temperature values will continue to decline.

“The temperature will drop, frost will increase, and on New Year’s night the minimum temperature in the morning of January 1 in Moscow will drop to -4 ...- 2 ° С,” Pozdnyakova emphasized.

We add that on December 23, 2019 in Moscow, a record was reached of the maximum air temperature for this date in the entire history of meteorological observations. As follows from the data obtained from the weather station at VDNKh, the air warmed up to + 6.2 ° C. The previous record value was set in 2015, then it was +5.9 ° С.

As Roman Wilfand emphasized in an interview with RT, the ending year will be the warmest in the history of observations.

Weather in the early days of 2020

In the early days of 2020, the “warm weather mode” that was established in December 2019 will continue, RT Acting Director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Wilfand told RT.

“On New Year's Eve, the temperature will drop ... Such weather is expected on January 1 and at night on January 2. Then another temperature increase will occur. Until Saturday, January 2, 3 and 4, at night it is expected -4 ... 0 ° C, and in the afternoon 0 ... + 4 ° C. Small, negligible precipitation is possible. That warm weather mode, which was during December, goes over to the very first days of the new year, ”the weather forecaster explained.

The site of the Hydrometeorological Center also summed up the weather observations in Moscow on New Year's days. So, the coldest January 1 turned out almost 115 years ago - in 1905 - then the columns of thermometers dropped to -33.6 ° С. At the same time, the weather forecasters recorded an absolute maximum in 1973, when the air warmed up to +4.2 ° С.

"The highest snowdrifts in New Year's Moscow were observed in 1920 - 57 cm. The average long-term snow cover is 24 cm. Most of the rainfall fell on January 1 in 1995 - 15.2 mm (snow, wet snow, rain)," meteorologists note.
