December 27 marks the 85th anniversary of the Soviet and Russian actor, theater director Nikolai Slichenko. He began his career at "Romaine" as an auxiliary artist, and after 26 years he headed the theater. One of Slichenko’s first directorial productions, the play “We Are Gypsies,” truly glorified Romen, opening up the world of Gypsy life to the general public. Slichenko is also known as a singer: gypsy romances in his performance were remembered by Soviet and Russian listeners. The artist’s creative biography also has roles in the cinema: he played in eight films, including Oleko Dundich and Wedding in the Robin. In 1981, Nikolai Slichenko was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR.
