Today, the Saudi Public Prosecution announced the issuance of death sentences for 5 accused in the case of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

A spokesman for the Saudi Public Prosecution, Shalan Al-Shalan, stated during a press conference that all those found involved in this case have been tried. He added that the court held 9 sessions in the Khashoggi case, and the verdict was issued in the tenth session.

He also pointed out that representatives from the Khashoggi family and from Turkey attended the case hearings.

He pointed out that the investigations demonstrated the absence of enmity between the convicts and Khashoggi, as well as the lack of prior intention.

In addition, Al-Shalaan explained that 11 detainees were charged, and they were investigated, and 5 were sentenced to death and 3 others to prison terms totaling up to 24 years.

He also added that the court had rejected requests related to 10 people, and ruled that they should be released for lack of evidence, including Ahmed Al-Asiri, the deputy chief of intelligence, and the advisor to the royal court, Saud Al-Qahtani.

He pointed out that those rulings in the Khashoggi case are non-final and subject to appeal, and after the appeal the judgments are submitted to the Supreme Court.
