A total of 671,494 patients were on the waiting list at the end of June to be operated in public health, which is the highest figure since 2003 - first year of which there is data on the website of the Ministry of Health -, and makes they have to wait an average of 115 days to be able to be intervened .

A delay that is also the highest in the historical series, only surpassed by the 129 days that had to wait to be operated at the end of last year.

Of the 671,494 people who had not yet been tapped, 15.8% (106,096) had been waiting more than six months, according to data from the Information System on waiting lists in the National Health System (NHS) who posted this Friday the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare.

Catalonia, with 168,108 patients, and Andalusia, with 137,721, are the communities with the most people pending to be operated, followed quite a distance, from the Valencian Community (56,725), Madrid (52,579) and Castilla-La Mancha (36,772).

Galicia, with 34,468, Canarias (24,862), Murcia (22,353), Aragón (22,247), Castilla y León (22,145), Extremadura (21,646), Asturias (18,864), Basque Country (18,357) and Balearic Islands (11,906) are the following communities on the list.

The shortest are those of Melilla (359), Ceuta (877), La Rioja (4,765), Navarra (7,118) and Cantabria (9,622).

Those who have more to wait to be intervened are the Andalusians - with an average of 164 days - followed by the Castilian-Mosque (149), Catalans (146), Canaries (127) and Extremadura (111).

With 99 days of waiting they are behind Aragón, Cantabria (88), Valencian Community (83), Murcia (79), the autonomous city of Ceuta (75), Baleares (73), Asturias (71), Castilla y León (67 ) and Navarra (62).

And the patients who have less delay to have surgery are Madrid (46 days), Rioja (47), Basques (49), Galicians (56) and citizens of Melilla (60).

By surgical specialties, traumatology has the highest waiting list, with 171,534 patients, followed by ophthalmology (140,930), general and digestive surgery (121,519), urology (52,220) and otolaryngology (44,776).

The waiting lists of gynecology (29,651), plastic surgery (23,787), maxillofacial surgery (20,601), pediatric surgery (18,390), angiology and vascular surgery (15,900), dermatology (15,133) and neurosurgery (12,008) are placed below.

Thoracic surgery, with 1,992 patients, and cardiac surgery, with 3,053, are the specialties with the least bulky waiting lists.

The highest average waiting time for surgery is plastic surgery - with 351 days - followed by neurosurgery (153), thoracic surgery (139), pediatric surgery (132), traumatology (126), general and digestive surgery (113), maxillofacial surgery (110), otolaryngology (108), urology (103) and gynecology and dermatology, both with 100 days of delay.

The shortest average waits are those of cardiac surgery (51 days), ophthalmology (74) and angiology and vascular surgery (99).

The 11 clinical processes that are specifically registered in this information system, with the data provided by the autonomous communities, have an average waiting time of 83 days.

The average delay recorded for the operation of hallux valgus ("bunions") is the most expected , with 122 days, followed by arthroscopy (105), interventions of benign prostatic hypertrophy (104) and varicose veins (101 ).

An average of 92 days await patients who have surgery for inguinal or crural hernia and hip prostheses, 91 who are undergoing adeno-tonsillectomy, 90 cholecystectomies, 89 pilonidal cysts, 77 the carpal tunnel and 65 cataracts .
