Airborne watermelon “Luna Piena” is the peak of harvest November 29, 14:15

In Konan City, Kochi Prefecture, the watermelon “Luna Pieena” grown in an unusual way hanging in the air is at its peak in winter harvest.

Teyuyama district of Yasu-cho, Konan City has been cultivated with watermelon since the 1950s and is known as a representative production area in Kochi Prefecture.

At present, five farmers are growing watermelons under the brand name "Luna Piena" which means the full moon in Italian, and Takamasa Matsumoto's agricultural house grows to about 16 cm in diameter and about 2 kg in weight. The watermelon is now at its peak of winter harvest.

The watermelons in this area are cultivated in an unusual way to cultivate the fruit with string, so that the leaves and the sun are evenly sunlit to strengthen the sweetness. I gently placed it on a work unicycle with a blanket to prevent it from sticking and harvested it.

This means that the sunny weather continued from last month before harvesting, the sweetness increased, and it was finished as a delicious watermelon as usual.

Mr. Matsumoto said, “I want you to eat delicious winter watermelon in a heated room.” Konan City's winter watermelons are harvested all year round and shipped to Kochi Prefecture, Kanto and Kansai.
