A class for elementary school students to experience gagaku Saitama Gyoda Nov 29, 19:45

A special class for learning Japanese traditional music “Gagaku” was held at an elementary school in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture, and children challenged playing musical instruments.

This special class is held every year at an elementary school in Gyoda City, and 70 of the 6th graders participated in the class held at Izumi Elementary School.

The children listened to performances such as “Sho”, a wind instrument that can produce complex chords with a tone like a pipe organ brought together by three local Gagaku lovers, and “Hichiriki” like a flute. I learned the characteristics of each instrument.

The children listened to the elegant tone when the song “Koshidenraku” performed at a festive seat was performed.

After that, the children deepened their understanding of Gagaku by trying to play sounds by playing musical instruments and wearing costumes worn by players.

The boy who participated said, “I was very happy to be able to touch Gagaku instruments that I cannot usually touch.”

“It was a very timely experience for children,” said Noriyuki Yoshinaga, a senior teacher at Izumi Elementary School.
