The Metropolitan Police Department sent out an animal wholesaler to send documents for allegedly smuggling rare lizards whose trade is regulated internationally. It means that it was resold for 6 million yen.

The documents were sent to a 36-year-old animal wholesaler in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, this contractor has been suspected of smuggling from Hong Kong without permission for two Perentian Monitor lizards whose international trade is regulated by the Washington Treaty twice last year.

It was imported into Narita Airport by air cargo in a box with other unregulated lizards.

The two were then resold to enthusiasts for 6 million yen and 3.3 million yen, respectively.

In response to the investigation, the contractor acknowledged the charges and told them that they were smuggled at the request of an enthusiast.

A total of five people, including enthusiasts and other contractors alleged to have been involved in smuggling, were sent out.

Perentia lizard lives in Australia and grows to about 2 meters in length and has a beautiful pattern on the body, so it is said to be “the most beautiful lizard in the world” by enthusiasts.
